The Jayhawks @ Rockefellers

This show was supposed to be at the newly re-opened Heights Theater, but I guess the venue wasn’t ready and was moved to Rockefeller’s – which also has recently started having live music again after a hiatus of several years.

The Jayhawks are another of my long-time favorite Alt-Country/Americana bands that I have not seen and can now check off my list. Fantastic show! The sound was good, the venue needs some fine tuning – we were in the balcony and the sight lines were not great, and I had to turn off the overhead lights when the music started in our area, which brought many thumbs-up from everyone in our section.

Folk Uke opened with a fun R-Rated set, Folk Uke is Cathy Guthrie (Arlo’s daughter) and Amy Nelson (Willie’s daughter) that have fun, folk inspired bawdy songs (I gave a BJ to the DJ). They were joined by the Jayhawks on one song, and came back out and sang backup on a couple Jayhawks songs.

Prior to the music starting, we had several nice conversations with other attendees. One guys I was talking to a bit seemed so familiar, it turned out he was Mike Stinson, and I have several of his albums. Rock groupie Pamela Des Barres was with him.
